And the castle walls, razed in the seventeenth century,

Grimaud
Var
The hilltop village of Grimaud is one of
the oldest of the Massif des Maures, backed by the forest
of cork oaks, protected by its castle built since the eleventh
century, it overlooks the Gulf of Saint Tropez, which was
called to late nineteenth Gulf of Grimaud. The lords of
Grimaud of this fortress were the centerpiece of the defense
system. Grimaud is a place of calm even at the height of
the tourist season. Between the Romanesque church of Saint
Michael the XIIth century, the chapel of the Penitents,
the Chapel of St. Roch and Notre Dame de la Queste, we discover
a restored mill, old bourgeoisie with my sons mullioned
windows and doors framed by black lava or serpentine, facades
flowered bougainvillea lining the narrow streets and shady
squares where fountains sing.
Village steeped in history and culture, many art galleries
are found in their natural environment. Heritage and tradition
are collected references to the Musée des Arts et
Traditions Populaires, open all year, but remained alive
through the annual celebrations which mark the rhythm of
the seasons.
Candlemas Fair, Foire de la Laine, Fête du Moulin,
Saint Michel Harvest Festival, St. Hubert, and of course,
the thirteen desserts at Christmas. As the sun and the earth
here are generous, they were for centuries the olive tree
and vines, the reputation of the appellation "Côtes
de Provence" is more to do. The vineyards of Grimaud
produce wines that marry well with the farandoles fruit
and vegetables, with the game and even, as the sea is not
far away, with sea urchins and fish. Grimaud restaurateurs
have kept the tradition of the real Provençal kitchen.
