Définition :
Pantheon is a term which indicates at the same time the set of the religion or mythology Gods and the Greeks and Romans consecrate building for all their divinities.
The monument where rests the nation great men is also called pantheon.
It is therefore necessary to not confound these two definitions

Situation and origin :
The Pantheon overhangs the mountain Saint-Genevieve, at the centre of the fifth Paris precinct. This "mountain" holds its name of the heroine legendary that saved Paris from the barbaric invasions of the Vth century, and that was buried there in 512.
Its tomb became immediately the pilgrimage object, and the maintenance of the saint's relics patronizes Paris which was confided soon to a regular canons chapter, (the génovéfains).
An abbey will be built in 508, during the Clovis reign, destined to shelter his burial and the one of his wife Clotilde who will contain the saint's trip, before receiving these of Clovis itself.
First of all dedicated to Saint Pierre and Saint Paul, this abbey will take finally the name of Genevieve saint in the XIIth century.
The Pantheon history gets closer of the one of the Madeleine. All two were ordered by Louis XV the Beloved (Versailles 1710-1774), King of France of 1715 to 1774
