The Revolution prison
:
It is the most attractive... and worrying
part of the Consiergery. You will remark that the prisoners’
categories were quite different between them according to
the richness or the incarcerate celebrity.
The «prisoners’ district» reconstitutes
a series of prisons such as they were under the Revolution:
the one of "straws", the one of the "pistoliers"
and finally the one of the "distinguished persons".
Engravings, tables and manuscripts tell you a little more
than five centuries of prison life.
The part of Marie-Antoinette is one of the principal visit
periods. You will see his bed, its comfortable there, its
personal effects, and the screen, thin concession with its
decency, which separates it from its guards. He is contiguous
to the Chapel which bears its name, built in its honour
according to the Louis XVI will.
Also to discover, the women’s court which allowed
prisoners to take some steps and to wash their linen in
the fountain, this exists still today.
The clerk office is the reconstitution of the part where
one registered the name of the prisoners as of their arrival.
Then the condemned passed by the toilet room where they
were stripped their personal effects, before being led to
the torment.
In all this incarceration rooms, characters with wax and
costumes revive under your eyes the features of the prisoners.
While leaving, do not miss the square tower dial, the oldest
Paris public clock!
