The Site :
The castle of Haut Koenigsbourg
has been constructed upon the Staufenberg which is a rocky
spur. It is one of the reasons that pushed Frederic II to
choose this site. Indeed, during the construction, it didn’t
have been oblige to find a career while the sandstone was
there. To detach the stone, the quarrymen drew a right line
on the rock. To every twenty centimetre, they dug a small
hole. In each holes was sink a corner. A worker gave a stroke
of mass upon the first corner then upon the second until
the last of the row. He restarted thus until the rock splits
itself. These works permitted to get the stones able to
the building but also sculpted the rock according to the
defensive needs. The small rocks pieces were used to form
the blockage which added to the wall solidity.
