The Eastern park of Maulévrier
is recognized as being the largest Japanese garden of Europe
today. Created at the beginning of the century by Alexandre
MARCEL, a well-known Parisian architect, this garden was
abandoned during 40 years, between 1940 and 1980. Refitted
and restored entirely since, the park took again today all
its former splendour. The vegetation is rich of more than
300 species of exotic plants (the park is also the 3rd arboretum
in Pays of the Loire), of which some are worked with the
manner of the Japanese landscape designers. One thus discovers
during the walk the size in transparency, plates... the
park is also decorated Japanese and Eastern constructions:
temple, pagoda, red bridge, lanterns, landing stage, etc...
of which some come from the World Fair of 1900 in Paris
for which Alexandre MARCEL had taken part. One discovers
there also a permanent exposure of bonsaï and ceramics
of Eastern inspiration in complement of the visit of the
garden
