The territory of the park
of Chartreuse extends in the major part on the mountainous
massif having the same name. Some piémonts at the
circumferences and a valley bordered with hills in the
west delimit its perimeter carefully. Wedged between two
very urbanized poles, Grenoble and Chambéry, this
small prealpin massif with the tormented relief has an
image of charm and mystery, inseparable from its dark
forests of spruces and fir trees or those planted of beeches
and other leafy trees. But the chartroussean landscape
is also recognizable with its deep throats traversed by
torrents and with its tops of modest altitude but with
steep cliffs. Let us add, to supplement the table, disseminated
glades here and there, hamlets and villages made up of
solid square masonries to the famous roof with four sides
and some species of flora and fauna specific to the massif.
