5 000 years ago, the shepherds
already moved with their herds on this vast territory.
The millenia are passed; at the first centuries of our
era, the Rutènes Celts live peacefully under Roman
domination: the trade of potteries of Graufesenque is
then with its apogee. The Middle Ages see the development
of the agro-pastoral economy under the impulse of Templiers,
whose cities still take care on the causse of Larzac.
Under the Revolution ,the department of Aveyron is created.
The XXth century is strongly marked by the war of 1914-1918,
then by the upheavals of mentalities and the modernization
of the economy. The park, Created in the south of Aveyron,
is next to the National park of Cevennes and the regional
Natural reserve of High-Languedoc. Its territory is bordered
in the east by the Cevennes, in north by the valley of
the Batch, in the south by the plains of Languedoc, in
the west by the mounts of Lacaune. One can divide it into
six large soils.
