Money :
Since January 1st, 2002, European country nationals having
adopted the euro (€) don't have any more problem of
change. This new currency is exchanged therefore within
12 countries of Europe (the national currencies are not
anymore in circulation).
For the others the change takes place in the banking agencies
(open in general from 10am to 17pm from Monday to Friday
in Parisian region, and from Tuesday to Saturday in province,
where they often close between 13pm and 14pm).
Some automatic ticket windows are almost everywhere in the
commercial districts.
Schedules of the banks :
The banks are mainly open from10 am to 5 p.m. from Monday
to Friday in Paris area and from Tuesday to Saturday in
province (where they close between 1 p.m. and 15 pm). Some
open on saturdays morning. Attention,during the days before
public holidays the banks close often earlier. The exchange
transactions are ensured in all the banking agencies and
post offices. One finds also exchange offices in the department
stores, the stations, the airports and close to the places
of interest. Caution: if the rate of exchange is fixed,
the commission remains free. It must thus be clearly posted.
Bank cards are accepted in many stores, hotels and restaurants.
The tradesmen often post a minimum threshold of expenditure.
If you lose your card, make opposition as soon as possible.
