History of Sailboard :
Even if Newman Darby is well the
inventor of the Sailboard, it is only the orientation of
the rigging in all directions made possible by the joint
of Jim Drake is going to permit to make the contraption
that we know all today of it..
All the specialists agree to say that the sailboard progressed
much more during the 10 last years than since the beginning
of humanity.
. [1964] tekno : Several inventors
allot the paternity of the sailboard. In all cases, a thing
is sure. That month of May 1964, Derby brings up a mast
and a sail on a board of surfing in Pennsylvanie. His board
measures three meters of length and 90 cm of width, a mast
and a kneecap that can only move laterally unfortunately. The
lack of wishbone made its use delicate..
During two years, Newman Darby will polish its invention
but not being a businessman, he will be able to convince
neither the banks nor the private investors of the validity
of his idea.
[1974] market : the first
Windsurfers of Schweitzer are thus been inported to France. They
are made up of polyethylene, solids while being light and
it is on this standard model that the first practisers will
discover this new sport. The first media of the sailboard
in France, bulletin of the French Association of Windsurfers
Splatch!sees the day with nearly 4000 readers.
[1976] kompet :a 13 year old
young person gains the championship of the Windsurfer world...
it is Robby Naish and one did not finish speaking about
him.
[1977] tekno : German Jurgen
Honsheid lands on the beach of Diamond Head (Oahu Hawaii)
goes even further. He sails with a machine which is a true
surfing and does not float to the stop. Surfing, jump, all
is then allowed
Area of France :
Wissant,
Calais and the coast of Opal :
An exceptionally beautiful landscape, a sea color... opal,
finally green, blue or gray according to the conditions.
Wind is very present (among best stats of Europe), and a
weather often much better that one could not fear it, the
wind pushing the clouds. It is not rare that the interior
grounds are covered with clouds, while on the beach you
sail under the sun. The light is then splendid! This windy
area is a paradise for the windsurfers who do not fear the
waves and who have agood combi (even in summer, one needs
at least a shorty).
Touquet and Somme :
The South of Pas-de-Calais and Somme is a succession of
beaches (immense) which go from Touquet to Tréport
and are mainly directed full West or north Western: Fart
Mahon and Quend Plage, Crotoy, Cayeux. These spots function
very well by wind of the South, or North (for the courageous
ones only). Unfortunately, the dominant winds are rather
of West, from where a wind often on-Shore). Some spots present
a little different orientations which make it possible to
adapt to the conditions of wind. The large advantage of
these spots is that they vaster and are less attended than
those of Wissant. See the map of the spots of north.
The Touquet :
This great seaside resort in the South of Boulogne disposes
of an immense beach directed full west. The spot does not
present particular difficulties when the wind is well directed.
The waves go up however quickly with the wind. Those who
prefer the slalom conditions can go a little more to the
north to sail in the bay of Canche, but attention to the
flowing of water which can be very strong (not monitoring).
It is also, with low tide, an excellent spot for the sailtank,
the speed sail, or even the kite.
The Crotoy :
This urban spot is located in bay of Somme, vis-a-vis to
the Western South. It is thus well protected, the waves
do not enter even by strong wind. This makes it possible
to sail by practically all the orientations of wind, even
when the wind is on Shore. It is rather a spot of slalom.
On the other hand, this spot is navigable only with high
tide (at least semi high) A foot on 100 or 200 m, which
allows the training of the waterstart. The only difficulty
is the flowing of the tide, which can be a little disrupting.
Easy parking.
Cayeux :
This spot is a great beach directed vis-a-vis to the Western
North, in the South of Valéry Saint on Somme. It
shows the same characteristics as Touquet, Fort Mahon or
Quend Plage, with a difference: the beach at the beginning
presents a very strong slope, which can generate a strong
Shore break. No problems with low tide, but prudence thus
with high tide!
