Argentomagus,
Gallic oppidum - Marcel Saint, Indre :
the town of Argenton was where (are) now certain
large farmhouses of wines called the castle(lePalais),
holy walls (Mersans) and Virou... One still sees
there the ruins of several beautiful and sumptuous
artificial fountains whose channels are made of
marble [... ] and whose drying ovens are made of
alabaster... All these antiquities reveal enough
which was the size and magnificence of the aforementioned
old city. "But, although the identification
of the site is transmitted of one scholar to the
other since the Rebirth, only some investigations
took place on the ground during the XIXth century,
and it is only from 1962 that systematic research
was undertaken in Argentomagus (classified since
among the principal French sites to emphasize).
