The
archaeological crypt of the square of Notre- Dame
:
The discoveries made at the time of excavations
undertaken in 1965, at the time of the construction
of a car park under the square of the cathedral
Notre Dame, are at the origin of the creation of
the archaeological crypt.
Michel Fleury, vice-president of the Commission
of the Old Paris man and then director of historical
Antiquities of the area of Island-of-France, were
the instigator. The crypt conceals many vestiges
of installations and ancient constructions, of which
a system of quay, houses with hypocauste, the rampart
of the Lower Empire. The more recent periods are
also represented, with for example the medieval
wells, the cellars of houses of medieval origin
or the foundations of the frontage of the old people's
home of Child-Found built by Boffrand at the XVIIIth
century
