NERAC IN ALBRET

NErac
CAPITAL OF WELL-BEING
Nérac, country of gastronomy, has the savour of melon, the perfume of boletus, the aroma of the salmi of wood pigeon, the flux of the foie gras. In the freshness of the medieval lanes, under the bathed roofs of a sun with the Italian accents, the doors open, accessible, letting escape the flavours from a traditional kitchen, true local inheritance.
And Nérac can offer to the person who takes time to taste them, all the occasions of a delicious stay. That it is devoted, at rest, to the discovery of Albret and Gascogne or with the sports activities (tennis, VTT, pedestrian horsemanship, swimming, golf, excursions.

A MOSAIC OF LANDSCAPES
The Country of Albret offers to the glance a beautiful variety of landscapes: fertile plains, planted slopes of fruit trees and vines, fresh and secret rivers, shaded forests, without forgetting a remarkable inheritance.

Baïse is a wire of ideal ARIANE to enter into the Country of Albret. From Buzet, it is boxed little by little. A bridge "wire" spans it: you are in Vianne, fortified town of English style of XIIIth century, surrounded of ramparts. Since 1920, the glass Masters, that you will be able to always see working in their workshops, have contributed to the fame of the city.
Between Broustaud and Limon, apple trees, cherry trees, hazel trees and walnut trees cover the slopes. On Gélise, confluence of Baïse, the strengthened mill of the Towers is set up, in Barbaste, which dates back to the the XIIIth century. It raises four towers which sheltered, in addition to the millers, a garrison to defend the Roman bridge under which Gélise passes. Curiosity: the built house frontage misleads the eyes to dissimulate the ugliness of the rock. You plunge then in the heart of Nérac, capital of Albret. The Old -Bridge, Gothic, carries you out to the port. From the castle, the streets distil perfumes of Renaissance: house of the Conference, private mansions... In the park of Garenne, by the alley of the "3000 steps" going along the river, let yourself be told the storyof floweret, amante gotten rid of by the Green Gallant and who, of despair, drowned.
The city of Nerac is also a dynamic sub-prefecture, equipped with a cultural space. Its market of Saturday is famous in all the country and its festivals are generous. Concerning Baïse, Fréchou, is decorated with a castle built between XIIIth and XVIth century, and where, the summer, are exposed old textiles. Moncrabeau announces Gers. From the port, climb by the alleys to reach the "mount of the goats". Follow the "lyer" circuit, concocted by the Academy...of the liars. Here, the first Sunday of August, the international Contest of the liars elects his king in large pump..
Throughout the channel
Damazan has a typical place of the fortified towns. Not far, Saint-Pierre-of-Buzet shelters a church of XIth century, jewel of the Roman art. Many castles and manors attest the richness of this territory. The side channel carries on its road towards Bruch, strengthened village. At the bar-restaurant of Peace, mural frescos going back to Napoleon III were discovered under the tapestry. In the grounds, Montagnac-on-Auvignon is one of the most beautiful sites of Albret .
At the heart of the forest
Casteljaloux ,the door of the forest of Landesof Gascogne, is the other capital of Albret. Its streets with the houses with wood sides and corbellings lead to the house of Roy. This castle constituted the principal defense of the city. It was dismantled in 1636 and its stones re-used to rebuild the church Our-injury, destroyed during the wars of religion. Do not forget either to make an interesting turning by the Roman vaults of Villefranche-of-Queyran and Couture, in Reunion. At the XIXth century, the man planted pines in order to drain the marshes.
Discover them in the domanial forest of Campet, with the wood piegons that are hidden in the trees. The habitat takes a landanian air here. The airials are organized around houses decorated of covered terraces. The villages were proud of churches such as that of Pompogne and its pine which pushes on the rock or that of Pindères and its beautiful door. That of Goutz, known as the "Gothic vessel", emerges at the edge of Ciron. Three miraculous fountains and two Roman vaults also contribute to the fame of the places.
