Nuits-Saint-Georges

In the heart of a pond of life of 15000 inhabitants, halfway between Dijon and Beaune, , Nuits-Saint-Georges's canton owes its fame to the prestige of its wines. Shared between Hillsides, which peak in 600m, known for their vineyards and their stone marble quarry, and the cereal plain which spreads out until the forest of CÎTEAUX, the canton knew how to build up itself an appropriate identity Of any time, the region was a stopping-off place for trades.
The site of Bolards and Arcenant's archaeological vestiges still give evidence of it nowadays.

Our wines, our specialities
The villages of the coast produce mainly red wines stemming from the black pinot. All the range of the great naming is represented: regional, village, first and great vine (Romanée Conti). The pauses of the season coincide with the Sale of the Wines of Orphanages in March and the Holiday of the Surly Wine in October. To accompany these wines: snails, gougères (a cheese cake), coq au vin, bourguignon Beef, Citeaux's cheese. The amateurs of sweet savours will feast by borrowing the Road of the Cassis, from the Cassissium departure.

Our Patrimony
In the end of XI-th century, the monks of Cîteaux settle in a swampy forest, where they build their abbey (opened from May till October). They value these lands by putting their science in aid of the agriculture and in particular of the vineyard. Seat of the Brotherhood of the Knights du Tastevin, the Castle of Vougeot's , visits all year long, remain the best testimony of their influence. Nuits-saint-georges and surrounding villages preserve also vestiges of past: bell tower laundries. A visit in the municipal museum is necessary. Think of asking for the PASS BACCHUS!

YOUR LEISURE ACTIVITIES
The canton lends itself; in numerous sports activities, among which hike on feet or on horse back, the mountain bike., tennis, swimming (with a swimming pool in the Nuits and Vougeot). The Office of Tourism puts at your disposal a plaque listing eight paths of rides marked out on the coast. As for the most athletic, they will find their happiness on the occasion of the half marathon of the Sale of Wines in March.
