chalonnais
From Beaune's coasts to the hilly plain of
Bresse, in the Valley of the Saône, Chalonnais draws
contrasted landscapes, of vineyards, forests, vegetable and
cereal farming.
On the hillsides of which some peak to more of 400m, the pinot
and the chardonnay found their climate and their ground of
preference. Maranges, Bouzeron, Rully, Mercurey, Givry, Montagny,
produces naming of white gold, ruby fame of which is well
beyond Burgundy. On about thirty kilometres, numerous cellars
and vaults are opened to the tasting. The Chalonnaise coast
presents a great number of beautiful vine growers’ houses
in villages with the traditional environment of yellow or
grey calcareous stone. In this warm atmosphere fountains,
Calvaries and oratories are discovered.
Chalon-sur-Saône, cradle of the photography invented
by a child of the country, Nicephore Niepce, the most populated
city of the department, accumulated historic vestiges that
one discovers notably in the ancient districts
