Charolais brionn

In the southwest of Saône-et-Loire, the Charolais Brionnais waves its hilly landscapes of freezings and meadows drawn according to its rivers Arroux, Arconce, Bourbince, Oudrache that twist before joining the vast bed of the Loire.
On both sides of a backbone of granite and stoneware, watershed between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, rivers 'mouths full of plantations are the feed of the cattle of Charolais race, bovine with the white dress and the rich croup envied by the breeders of the whole world. Big collected villages, strengthened farms, castles shielded from wooded screens; quickset hedges draw a panorama full of peace of mind and of sweetness. More than hundred churches and chapels built in X-th and XI-th centuries constitute a rare collection of chefs-d'œuvre of this Romanic art which gives to the sculptured stone of the brightness of a touching beauty. This rich cultural patrimony comes along with an active and much diversified craft. It is also the cradle of the ceramic in Digoin, artistic and contemporary earthenware in Charolles and culinary potteries in Marcigny. The social interaction is well lived whether in fairs of cattle or in markets of farmers. It is expressed also on the occasion of folkloric demonstrations or during the traditional celebrations of the village.
