Daoulas
Nested in the heart of the natural harbour of Brest, surrounded
with hills, Daoulas is
a harbour of charm and peace of mind. A city impossible to
circumvent for the lovers of the religious patrimony, the
culture and of natural protected spaces, the municipality
possesses this small more cities where one feels well. Numerous
points of view as luxurious as unexpected come to light to
the walkers in the torn banks of the bottom of the natural
harbour, the swampy zone (place of wintering for migratory
birds), the panoramas of the internal hills, with notably
the impressive viaduct dating of 1866.
But Daoulas is especially renowned for the profusion of her
religious patrimony. Medieval prosperous city, the town developed
mainly under the influence of its abbots from the XII-th century.
Iron of lance of the community
and current place of cultural exhibitions of international
fame, the abbey, which preserved a primitive Romanic style,
shelters treasures inherited from last centuries
• The abbey church, imposing Romanic building of a great
sobriety,
• The Gothic hall moved in the entrance of the cemetery.
• The magnificent Romanic convent, the only one still
intact in Brittany although deprived of one of its sides,
forms a rectangle which shelters a bowl for toilets.
The monumental fountain and the oratory Notre-Dame of Fountains:
the austerity of the abbey leaves place to the sweetness of
this place in the heart of the park, where one came to implore
the cure of eye diseases and infertility. Near the enclosure,
is the Holy chapel Anne, which welcomed the pilgrims in the
Middle - Age. The Descent towards the port is done then through
the street of the Church, where the houses of XV-th and XVI-th
centuries seem to transport us in these ancient times. The
town centre also deserves that one lingers there, with notably
the mill of the bridge, Kerisit's manor house (XVllth), Holy
Nicolas fountain, building of the earthenware factory, and
a little further, the Holy Roch chapel, snuggled up in a bouquet
of trees.

Dirinon
Enclosed by the banks of Elorn in the North and those of the
Mignonne in the South, the municipality of Dirinon offers
a pleiad of different landscapes. Trees surrounded the territory
of the municipality and numerous sorts populate wood and forests.
The amateurs of ride will take advantage of this variety:
the pond of Roual and the ruins of the mill of the same name
( 1622 ), the banks of Elorn, Kerivin's safari park, or the
park of Daisies and its arboretum.
In the end of the VIth century, Nonne, a young nun escaping
England, found refuge in Dirinon's wood. She gave birth in
it to Divy (Future saint patron of the Wales) and multiple
miracles occurred. The chapel which carries its name shelters
its grave and the museum of Dirinon's traditions today. Within
the parochial enclosure, a magnificent Calvary adjoins the
church ( 1588 ) in the finely openwork bell tower. In the
South of the village, a chapel was set up in honour of Saint
Divy (on 1702, reconstruction in 1824), as well as two fountains,
of whom one dedicated to Saint - nun (known for curing eye
diseases).
La Forest-Landerneau
Rural district placed on the north hillside of Elorn, Forest-Landerneau
is covered with forests on near 25 % of its territory.
Endowed with a very varied civil and religious architectural
patrimony (Church Saint Ténénan (XIX-th), Holy
Anne chapel(XIXth) the war Laouen castle (XIX-th), Coat-Mez's
manor house (XIX-th), the manor house of Great Palud, the
station), the community of Forest Landerneau is especially
known for the ruins of the castle of Merry Guard, seat of
a legend of the arthurian epic . In ancient times, atrocious
crimes were committed in the surrounding wall of the castle,
surrounded by bloodthirsty giants. By the courage and the
bravery, fearless knight Lancelot of the Lake succeeded in
freeing the castle from the " Painful Guard ". Celebrated
by the king Arthur, the castle carries since then the name
of " Merry Guard ". Of the castle, there are only
ruins today, but legend remains and a strange feeling emanates
from the places. It is doubtless the reason for which numerous
writers drew their inspiration from it.
Hanvec
Hanvec is the vastest community of the Country of Landerneau-Daoulas
and offers very varied landscapes. It is placed in the field
of Armorique's regional Natural reserve, place of conservation
and expression of the wealth of the patrimony of an authentic
territory, where otters, beavers and almons still live...
In the east of the community, the last summits of Arrée's
mountains are found, protecting a space protected by moors,
peat bogs and rocky spurs. The National forest of Cranou,
which spreads out over more than 600 hectares, is one of the
most watered forests within Brittany which gives it a considerable
botanical wealth.
In the South, the peninsula of Lanvoy advances in the natural
harbour of Brest and offers some kilometres of shores and
cliffs.
Ménez-Meur's domain spreads out over 500 hectares within
a magnificent hedged farmland. Safari park and place of exhibitions
you will find there all the information relative to the P.N.R.A.
(Information: 02 98 68 84 95 or 02 98 68 81 71)
Besides this extraordinary environment, the municipality also
offers an interesting civil and religious patrimony: Kediver's
manor house, the Church with the hall of the XVIIth century
and Saint Ncodeme statue; near the Chapel St - jeans (XVIIth
Century) and the ossuaire; Lanvoy's chapel (in ruin); numerous
Calvaries.
