IF MOELAN WAS TOLD TO ME…
The origins of Moëlan-sur-Mer are very discussed. For
J.M. Bachelot of Pylaie, it could be "Mouest Lann",
the wet ground, like he discovered it there is one century
and half ago. On the top of the plateau, there where the rock
levels the surface, the ground is often gorged with water
and offers an enamelled moor of bouquets of pines. For others,
it is the history which would provide the explanation. According
to other people, a certain "Moé", an Irish
monk going up one of the rias would have established its hermitage
where"lan" as others did it. They will be thus precursory
those who will build, a few centuries later the abbeys of
Kemperlé and Karnoet, controlling the major part of
the area during the Middle Ages.
According to the others, it is about a roman "Mediolanum",
one of these particular places, with sacred vocation. The
importance of the megalithic monuments which mark out this
territory could attest this origin. A certain number disappeared
at the beginning of the century, but the shady alleys which
remain would make ascend the population of the places in 2
300 before J.C.
