Rocquénolé
– Carantec
By leaving Morlaix by the quay of Leon one skirts the manufacture
of the Tobaccos. After the locks ,the road follows the river.
To 3 km on the left:you will see Saint-François-de
-Cuburien vault. This blazing monument of Gothic style comprises
only one nave and beautiful stained glasses of XVIth century,
while
the interior is panelled. A way of the cross climbs to the
steep slope of the hill up to the sanctuary N-D-de-la-Saiette,
that is a place of pilgrimage. In the junction of the road
of Saint-Pol.
De Léon ,the bridge of Lanuguy crosses the mouth of
Pennélé. The cliff road cut in the schist curves
between the rock and the river of Morlaix. Foliations overhang
the escarpments. The estuary widens soon and on the other
bank the port of Dourduff appears. One arrives at Locquénolé.
This village, hidden in the greenery ,preserved its "tree
of freedom". In the church: very old Roman nave with
curious capitals; The church and its bell-tower, the enclosure
of the cemetery, the martyrdom and the fountain, make a charming
unit.
From the Heights of Locquénolé; beautiful points
of view on the bay of Morlaix. Take again the road of the
littoral in direction of Carantec. The point of PEN Al Lann,
the Louet Island, the castle of Taureau, the Stérec
Island and
the point of Barnénez are aligned in the marine horizon.
One passes against the headlight of the Moor. After Fransic
the rise of Frout moves away temporarily from the sea, then
one reaches Carantec. Between Penzé and the Roads of
Morlaix, Carantec is one of the most important seaside resorts
of Finistère. Thirteen kilometers of a cut out coast,
many beaches, a belt of islands: Île aux Dames, Île
Noire, Île Verte. Ricart. Beg-Lemm; make this wooded
and green peninsula an outstanding site. In the east, the
castle of Taureau is a faithful guard of the bay since centuries.
In the North-West, Île Callot and its vault with a past
of legend, are the object of the curiosity of numerous visitors.
The paths skirting the coast allow the tour of Carantec among
the brooms, the gorses and the heathers which overhang the
beaches, the rocks and the islands of the bay of Morlaix.
Sailing is widespread in the bay; fishing on foot and in boat
in a vivifying climate, finally.The excellent reception reserved
for the summer vacationers by the hotel managers, renters,
tradesmen, as well as the population, make of Carantec a charming
stay.
