MONTERAU-FAULT-YONNE

Point of meeting of the old provinces of Brie, Gâtinais, Champagne and Burgundy and located at the confluence of Seine and Yonne, Montereau offers the discovery of its inheritance and its animated streets.

THE MUSEUM OF EARTHENWARE
This museum presents a collection of 400 earthenware representative of the evolution of the forms and decorations during two centuries of activity. It is devoted to the earthenware of Creil and Montereau which met a sharp success at the XIXth century. A craftsman chose to make reappear the earthenware of Montereau. " Earthenware Tradition " proposes single works of traditional manufacture (reproductions of old, creations, and personalized earthenware).

PRIORESS OF SAINT-MARTIN
LOCATED ON A BLANK of slope, the Saint Martin's Priory was founded into 908, probably on the initiative of the Count of Champagne. (church of the Priory preserved its proportions of the year thousand and the chorus, raised above a crypt, was not modified at the Gothic time. Only the nave was somewhat arranged in XIIth and XVth centuries.

THE COLLEGIATE NOTRE-DAME AND SAINT-LOUP
BUILT In XIIth CENTURY and altered until XVIth century, this church was built to the will of fashions. Thus, the blazing Gothic and the Renaissance style are combined in a beautiful unit. The collegiate shelters a very beautiful "entombment " ,a painting of XVllth century, a stone altarpiece of XVIth century and a weapon of Jean Sans Peur, Duke of Burgundy, who was assassinated on the Bridge of Yonne in 1419. Not far from the collegiate, between the bridges of the confluence, an equestrian statue of Napoleon the 1st, carried out by the son of the General of Pajol Empire, illustrates the ultimate victory of the Emperor at the time of the compaign of France on February 18, 1814.

THE BRIE OF MONTERAU
AT MONTEREAU, the greedy ones will find also a gastronomical speciality which reappears little by little: the Brie of Montereau. Each Brie has its own specificities and that of Montereau combines its taste with a pleasant texture made heartedly. To taste absolutely at the tradesmen ‘s or the restorers of the city!

the YACHTMEN find in Montereau a river halt which enables them to approach and to discover the city peacefully.

FOR a FAMILY DISCOVERY of Montereau, a discovery booklet of the city is available on request at the Office of Tourism or the Departmental House of Tourism on the 01 60 39 60 39. Conceived in the form of ludic play-questions, this booklet involves the visitors through the city, to the discovery of sites that are not to miss.

Bray-sur-Seine
BETWEEN MONTEREAU AND PROVINS, the Bray-SUR-Seine preserved through the centuries, certain vestiges of its past. Its streets have the memory of the medieval time and reveal its secrets at rhythm of the visit: the statues of Saint Nicolas and Saint-Anthony, the various reliefs, three attic windows coming from Paris Tileries... In the heart of the city, the collegiate Notre-Dame, set up 1000 years ago, surprises the visitor by the entanglement and the superposition of the times.
To discover the Bray-sur-Seine, the "guide of the visitor" is available for free at the Tourist office. It proposes a discoverey course of the city and makes it possible to edge the principal curiosities of them.
Les collections de la Maréchalerie à Misy-sur-Yonne
Installed in an authentic forging mill, this unit recalls the life of marshal-shoeing, the blacksmith and the cartwright at one time when the horse was the only engine of culture. The public can discover and have an explanation of the whole of the exposed tools.
