BRIE-COMT-ROBERT: The book opens on the Midle Age .At the
heart of the Brie, the town of Brie-Comt-Robert is a true
book open on the Middle Age. The medieval charm of its centre
town, its places, its castle and its church, inspire the
testimony of the history...
THE CASTLE
This pretty city with the streets bordered of old houses
sheltered formerly an
encircled fort of walls, built by the count Robert II of
Dreux, under the reign of Philippe Auguste. The castle,
currently in the course of restoration, restores perfectly
the architecture of XIIth century. Its strengthened square
enclosure is surrounded of ditches still in water today.
Two turn-doors, also squared, were used as opposite entries.
One of the two turns acted as main tower, symbol of the
Lordship power. There remains only the tower of Brie. It
is today the single enclosure of XIIth century presenting
this provision inIle-de France (exhibition of the archaeological
deposit every Sunday after midday except in the event of
bad weather).
FOUNDED towards the end of XIIth century, the Gothic frontage
of the God Hotel of a rare beauty on the level of its harmony
as well as its architectural achievement, testifies to the
reception reserved in Xlllth century to the poor and tired
travellers coming to the markets of Brie. Today it is a
center of temporary exhibitions, equipped with rich and
varied programming. Saint-Etienne church dates back to Xlllth
century and raises its splendid frontage on four floors
with, in its top, a rosette and its balcony, its arrow and
its Renaissance turret and on its lower sides there are
laces worked with the expressive gargoyles .
One can also see there many stained glasses and a free restored
organ.Concerts are free once per month by the Friends of
the Organ of Brie-Comte-Robert.
