The country of Marseille

Overview
Between sea and mountains, the country of Marseille occupies the south-eastern department of Bouches-du-Rhône. Here is a territory in terrain. Sy cities have developed between the massifs de l'Etoile and the Sainte-Baume, north and east, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. The bay that opens widely within ribs cut explains the maritime vocation of the city and its people since it began. Marseille is the oldest city and largest port in France. The presence of large coves protected downtown and numerous islands enhances the mineral character of the landscape and seascape.

Climat
It should be clearly distinguished climate seaside, sea and temperate, and the inland, more mixed. In general, it is hot and sunny all year round. The mistral blows regularly aerates the seaboard and animates water sports.

history
It is the oldest city in France, founded by the Phocaeans in 600 BC (Phocaea, the Greek city) and then developed by the Romans (Massilia) as trading. The city is developing XV in the nineteenth century around the port and industries (soap). Marseille is definitely the major port of the Mediterranean.
