The country of Marseille
Overview
Between sea and mountains, the country of Marseille occupies
the south-eastern department of Bouches-du-Rhône. Here
is a territory in terrain. Sy cities have developed between
the massifs de l'Etoile and the Sainte-Baume, north and east,
and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. The bay that opens
widely within ribs cut explains the maritime vocation of the
city and its people since it began. Marseille is the oldest
city and largest port in France. The presence of large coves
protected downtown and numerous islands enhances the mineral
character of the landscape and seascape.
Climat
It should be clearly distinguished climate seaside, sea and
temperate, and
the inland, more mixed. In general, it is hot and sunny all
year round. The mistral blows regularly aerates the seaboard
and animates water sports.
history
It is the oldest city in France, founded by the Phocaeans
in 600 BC (Phocaea, the Greek city) and then developed by
the Romans (Massilia) as trading. The city is developing XV
in the nineteenth century around the port and industries (soap).
Marseille is definitely the major port of the Mediterranean.
