Park Incubator
In 1818, the General Council took ownership of land along
the Luye to create a nursery that would départementale
together in one place everything that the department produces
more curious and more useful in fact trees "in order"
to encourage the spread of good plantation species of fruit
trees and expansion of forest plantations throughout the department
in 1844, the land was ceded to the city of Gap. Over the years
the nursery has been transformed into a public park where
you can admire the different species planted in the last century.
In 1911, the Bandstand was opened. The situation of this shady
park near the city center makes it popular, lively and appreciated
by all, next to the rink and bowling alley.
Domain of Charance
Ownership of Viscounts Gap in the tenth century, this area
bought by the Bishops in 1309 was part of the heritage church
until 1790. The castle, which existed since the Middle Ages
was devastated in 1692 by the army of the Duke of Savoy and
replaced by a house of pleasure in the eighteenth century.
It became national property, it was auctioned to the Revolution.
After several successive owners, the area of 220 ha has been
acquired by the city of Gap in 1973, becoming Gapençais
heritage. It was included in the supplementary inventory of
historical monuments on 8 September 1987. The tradition is
that every year for Saint Louis (25 August), Gapençais
rigodon went dancing at Lake Charance at a place called "The
meadow of the dance." The restoration and management
of farm buildings have allowed the installation of the Alpine
Botanical Conservatory in 1992. The offices of the Ecrins
National Park are part of the renovated rooms of the castle
since 1991.
