Inheritance and history
SINCE A LONG TIME
AGO: HISTORICAL AND UNUSUAL TREASURES
There is more than one million years ago,
Indre accomodated hunters in the valley of Creuse (camping
of Lavaud in Eguzon). But they are the Celts (Gallic people
of Bituriges) who worked its soils and built villages (Moulins-sur-Cèphons)
and the first cities (Levroux). The Romans brought their urban
civilization there (Argentomagus in Saint-Marcet). Disputed
between Aquitaine and the kingdom of France, the rich medieval
city of Indre obtained powerful fortresses.
In the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries, the development of the
forging mills, weavings and tanneries opened the doors of
the department to an important economic activity which is
prolonged today.
A CASTLE OFLOIRE
IN BERRY
Valençay, sumptuously furnished by the prince of Talleyrand,
influential minister of Napoleon, is a "a castle of Loire
in Berry". Its architecture integrates with elegance
all the styles of the Renaissane into the XIXth century. Luxurious
living rooms, princely apartments, vast kitchens reflect the
record of its famous owner (of 1803 to 1838). Each summer,
there are sounds and lights and 100 days of historical animation
carried out by actors which make of it the most alive castle
of Loire Valley.
THE PRINT OF THE
MIDDLE AGES
One counts more than100 castles or residences of this period!
Dungeons and fortresses proudly stand up there in the countryside
(Sarzay, Château-Guillaume; saint Chartier) as well
as in the city (César Tower in Châtillon,Blancs
Towers in Issoudun). Belfries and strengthened doors still
take care on old the entries of city: Chateauroux, Issoudun,
Levroux or Saint-Benoît de Sault.
BOUGES :PETIT TRIANON
The castle of Bulges; built around 1765, inevitably evokes
Petit Trianon of Versailless. One allots the paternity to
the architect Gabriel. With a very traditional rigour, perfectly
balanced, this aristocratic residence releases one surprising
impression of lightness. Inside, one finds all the decorative
perfection of the XVIII century with sumptuous furnishings
and splendid floral compositions.
A ROMANTIC SOUL
INDRE: GROUND Of ARTISTIC INSPIRATION AND FESTIVALS
Nohant, close to Châtre, a high place of artistic creation.
He wrote there his famous pastoral novels (La petite fadette,
Les Maîtres Sonneurs) which have as a framework the
"Black Valley" and accomodated there the greatest
artists of his time such as Chopin, Liszt, Delacroix and Balzac.
With the collaboration of Maurice, she animated this "modest
residence" (small private theatre, and theatre of puppets).
Impeccably restored, the field of Nohant releases an authentic
romantic atmosphere. II is the starting point of the "road
George Sand" which will carry out you, to the "Algira
villa" of Gargilesse, on places which inspired his works:
“the keep of Châtre”, “the castles
of Saint Chartier”, “the Mill of Angibault”,
“the fortress of Sarzay”,
