SOLOGNE
CAPITAL OF SOLOGNE
Sub-prefecture (19000 inhabitants) of Loire-and-Cher, in the
center of Sologne. On the Sauldre river - 180 km from Paris.
Sites
Square of the Castle: the residence of the sub-prefect installed
in the old castle of the city where was born in 1499 Claude
de France, who married in 1514,the future king of France François
the 1st. Street of the Tower: an old house with wood sides,
an old home of XVth century, with turrets, the Hotel of Rère.
In the street of Resistance follow one another three remarkable
constructions, specimens of middle-class and manioral architecture:
the Chancellery offer interesting woodcarvings, and the Saint-pol
Hotel., in front of which François the1st lose his
life,on January 6, 1521. The Saint-Etienne church is an interesting
example of Gothic Angou.
MUSEUM OF SOLOGNE
It is located in the middle of the city, between the Saint-Etienne
church and the castle, in old mills on Sauldre. The Mill of
the Chapter, with its four levels of exhibitions (country,
landscapes and history of Sologne architectures and society:
the world of the castles and the peasants – the traditional
economy and contemporary economy - hunting). The Mill of the
City, devoted to the history and economy in Romorantin, and
the Jacquemart Tower, place of temporary exhibitions.
MUSEUM Of ARCHEOLOGY
The museum of Marcel de Marchéville. Installed in Gilded
Carroir, it presents, on 30 m2 ,objects of prehistory, the
Gallo-Roman time and the Middle Ages, the fossils, the minerals
and rocks....
OPEN AIR
Park of Beauvais, road of Selles sur Cher: walks on foot,
course of VTT, skateboard tracks. Public garden of Ferdinand
Bush: 5 ha of greenery in the centre town, with many vegetable
species. The Mound, between the two arms of Sauldre, in a
shaded framework, park of leisures for the children, with
various plays, inflatable structures, mini golf. Island of
Poulies is a pleasant place for walks.
THE GASTRONOMICAL
DAYS OF SOLOGNE
Each year, since 1978, the last weekend of October, the capital
of Sologne proposes to all the craftsmen trades of mouth,ranging
from the apprentices to the professionals, various contests
where all, including the students, compete of ingeniousness
and technicality. This saloon of gastronomy, with an European
audience, is held on the site of the Pyramid on a covered
surface of more than 8000 m2
