saint - laurent
HISTORY
In the XIIth century, St-Laurent was the seat of an old parish
under the patronage of the abbey of Marmoutiers (Tours). Thereafter,
the village was annexed to the crown of France by the possessions
of the Duke Jean de Berry.
The borough developed on the right bank of Barangeon and around
the church. The latter, in ruins in the XVIIIth century was
rebuilt on the basis of the old monument. Of a surface of
3871 hectares, SAINT LAURENT is occupied by a forest massif
of 1895 hectares which was an old, possession of the lords
of Mehun, then of the kings of France. One finds this forest
of oaks called VOOT in 1190, VOLT in 1234 and VOUST in 1262.
The remainder of the communal ascendancy i is primarily occupied
by groves, the agricultural and breeding lands forming a landscape
of a grove type.
