Beaulieu sur Loire
Dominating Loire, Beaulieu sur Loire is
an old medieval city, with the remainders of the castle, its
fortifications and its castles dispersed in the countryside.
Today, the "external walk" makes it possible to
find the vestiges of the circular enclosure, its round or
square towers and the guard room of the old castle, registered
within the additional inventory of the historic buildings.
.
The church made block with the guard room. Its bell-tower,
probably from the XII th century, was designed for defense.
One can observe the arches where posted the defenders. During
the 1st world war, the bell-tower was used as tower of observation;
the soldiers engraved their names on the frame. The church
preserved its Roman nave whose barrel vault remained boarded
for a long time. The chancel and the transept, destroyed during
the wars of religion, were rebuilt with a Gothic style. The
furniture and the interior decoration date back to the end
of the XVIIth century and the XVIIIth century. They are classified
within the Additional Inventory of the Historic buildings.
Its altarpiece of baroque style which valorizes the "Pentecost"
painting. The presence of the Canons of Bourges, spiritual
and temporal Lords of the parish, is visible thanks to the
seats of mercies installed around the grids of the chancel.

The Canons, installed since the XIth century,
will live in, amongst other things, the current town hall.
Installed on the square of the church, this house with its
half-timberings, recalls the houses of the districts of Bourges
and Aubigny sur Nère. The house has a square dovecote,
representative of the vast field that Canons had on the Commune.
