WORLD INHERITANCE
Of UNESCO
The statue of Freedom in New York, Venice and its lagoon,
the Great Wall of China, the Galapagos islands, the temple
of Abou Simbel in Egypt... and since November 30, 2000, Val
de Loire! The list of the World Inheritance which identifies
throughout the world of the "cultural goods having an
exceptional universal value", grew richer with Val de
Loire by a territory which extends on some 280 km, between
Sully-sur-Loire in Loiret and Chalonnes-sur-Loire in Maine-and-Loire.

AN INTERNATIONAL
RECOGNITION...
With its 800 km², Val de Loire is the vastest site ever
registered in France by UNESCO. This
inscription constitutes an international recognition and devotes
the efforts carried out for a long time, and especially since
1994 with the creation of the Plan Full size Loire. High place
of art and history, Val de Loire testifies to the harmonious
development of the men and their environment over two thousand
years of history. The landscape of Val de Loire and its numerous
cultural monuments, more particularly, illustrates the ideals
of the Renaissance and the Century of the Lights on the thought
and the creation of Western Europe. It is also remarkable
for the quality of its architectural heritage, with its historical
cities such as Blois, Chinon, Orleans, Saumur and Tours, but
also for its sites of world fame, like Chambord, Amboise,
Villandry, the abbey of Fontevraud......
... A MORAL ENGAGEMENT
The characteristic of this territory, by its extent and the
diversity of the elements which make it up, obliges to invent
a new approach for its safeguarding and its valorization.
From now on, France commits itself to do all the necessary
steps to preserve its authenticity. For the whole of the partners:
economic communities, actors, associations, inhabitants, the
inscription corresponds to a moral engagement. Indeed, it
does not produce any new constraint compared to the French
legislation, since there is already an important regulation
concerning the monumental inheritance, the natural sites and
spaces.
