The HOUSE OF THE INFANTA-
JOANOENIA
Marie-Theresa the infanta of Spain resided
in this elegant home of Italian style at the time of her marriage
with Louis XIV in June 1660. Its name, Joanoenia, is the one
of Joannot of Haraneder, rich and influential ship-owner,
Bayle of the city in 1616 and 1648. From the watchtower and
the gallery with the gracious openings with arcades, he could
supervise the movement of his ships of trade and hunt to the
whale. His weapons are engraved above of the entrance door.
One can visit in the first floor of the big XVII room century:
sculpted and painted monumental chimney and beams richly decorated
with mysterious motives, remarkable set discovered in 1996.
Splendid view over the Rhune and the harbor.
