MONASTIC EMOTIONS

To build in edge of Lot, the Abbey of Clairac, dating for its oldest part to the year 782 will make you live an unforgettable moment in the middle of the boatmen, fishermen, vine growers.
This benedictine Abbey was entirely restored and populated, for your greatest curiosity, of monks automats of human size recalling in 15 scenes, the monastic and regional life at the Middle Age. During your visit, you will discover the mode of existence of the monks, their way of organizing themselves, the whole in entirely voiced scenes. You will learn thus, that the monks lived out of their own resources and largely contributed to the commercial rise of Aquitaine by introducing for example the "plant of tobacco" and by cultivating plums... at the origin of famous "prune of Agen".
The principal events having taken place within the Abbey, are evoked in their historical truth. After going through the pictures of the monastic and daily life of the Abbey, you will be able to admire on the 1st floor 15 scenes of famous characters having dwelt in Clairac. You will note that the past of this village and its Abbey is very rich in historical events. Thanks to Mr Charlemagne and Montesquieu, inter alia, for their visits.
