THE
MEDITERRANEAN OF YOUR CAMARGUE AT THE VERMILION COAST
The littoral of Languedoc-Roussillon is stretched on two hundred
kilometers of sandy coast, enamelled by some zones of relief
with the Saint-Clair mount in Sète, theSaint-Loup mount
in the Cape of Agde, the massif of Clape in Narbonne, to which
follows the cut out littoral of the Vermilion Coast.
This littoral with the multiple facets, where virgin and protected
spaces and more urbanized zones cohabit, exhibit a single
lagoon landscape, and a kingdom of the pink flamingos, brushes
or will herons. Forty thousand hectares of wild nature where
fauna and flora abound in perfect harmony. Common features
also characterize the littoral, like the maintenance of the
traditions which is expressed as well in Camargue, country
of the salt makers, the sagneurs and the manadiers, in Sète
and Palavas, theatre of water tournaments, as in the ports
of the Vermeille coast where traditional fishing rhythmises
local life.
Another sign of the diversity of this arc open on the Mediterranean,
the wise mixture between fishing ports bathed of history and
a chain of accessible and cordial seaside resorts.
Built since the end of the Seventies, seven seaside resorts
Port-Camargue, Grande-Motte, Cap d'Agde, Gruissan, Port Leucate,
Port Barcarès and Saint-Cyprien - mark out and animate
the littoral by marrying their local environment.
In extension of Grau-du-Roi, a second harbor of Mediterranean
trawling, the Port of Camargue is today the first marina in
Europe. Its water vocation is not denied as long as the suggested
activities are multiple, among which regattas, cruisings,
sporting fishing, windsurf and other hobby-cat.
The two stations of the coast of Languedoc: Grande-Motte,
with innovative architecture, and the Cape of Agile, universally
known for its naturist center that is the largest of Europe,
ignite the seasons of summer.
Lastly, this littoral with its setting: Sète. The fatherland
of Paul Valéry and George Brassens, stacked on a hill
and furrowed of channels, lives at the rhythm of its harbors
of trade, fishing and pleasure.
In Aude, within an exceptional framework formed by the massif
of Clape with the odorous and populated pine forests cicadas,
Gruissan just like Leucate, is a paradise for the amateur
sailboarders who are enthusiastic for big thrills.
In theEastern Pyrenees, the sensations are visual. Perfectly
rectilinear until Collioure, before becoming rocky with its
splits of dream, the roussillonnian littoral offers a complete
Mediterranean pallet with Port-Barcarès, Canet-plage,
Saint-Cyprien...
Lastly, not far from Spain, the Vermeille coast is revealed,
immense, and wild. Its villages kept all their authenticity,
whether it is about Collioure, Banyuls, Port-Vendres or Cerbére,
they, by their light and beauty, sharpened the imagination
of the largest painters like Matisse or Picasso.
