THE STONE IN MASGOT: THE SCULPTED VILLAGE
In a bosky bower, the small village of Masgot on the commune of Fransèches, shelters preciously the work of François Michaud (1810-1890), stone mason of the XIXthcentury. 15 years ago, the inhabitants of the village became aware of the quality of a work that is present since always, to which they had not paid attention. Together they decided to safeguard it and emphasize it while creating: the association of the "Friends of Pierre de Masgot". François Michaud, son of a migrant stone mason, himself stone mason, refused to leave his native soil like his contemporaries, thinking rightly that one could live and even make beautiful things while remaining in the country. Stone mason of his state, peasant like any,he took time to decorate all his places of life with sculptures out of granite (houses, kitchen garden, entry of fields, etc...). His sources of inspiration went from the police force, to the bestiary, while passing by the religion.
All in Masgot is a pretext to a walk. The work of François Michaud of course, but also a small rich inheritance (well, cider presses, couderc, laundrette...), a center of the stone which accomodates the groups the individual ones at the time of initiations to the size hones and the first house of François Michaud furnished as a house of XIXth c could be.To finish the walk in a pleasant manner, a bar accomodates the visitor in a cordial and convivial environment.
